ABOUTÂ LOLA
Functional Medicine Consultant and Family Nurse Practitioner
Meet Dr. Lola MacLean DNP, FNP-C!
Lola is a functional medicine and systems-based health coach specializing in gut health.
Hi! And welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
After caring for hundreds of people with symptoms gut related issues, and experiencing my own gut health journey, I am firm believer that all health starts in the gut.
When our gut is out of whack, nothing seems right. Bloating, constipation (or the opposite!), gas...even seemingly unrelated issues like anxiety, joint pain, and fatigue can be mitigated by addressing gut health.Â
Working in traditional primary care (aka conventional medicine), I identified a disconnect where I wasn't able to truly provide patients or myself with what was needed to really thrive. I didn't have the time to work with patients on implementing lifestyle changes or providing deeper education beyond a handout and another 15 minute visit 3 months later. I felt like I was only doing half (or maybe 1/4 if I'm being honest) of the work that was needed. This led me to leave traditional healthcare and start Haelan Empowered. Â
Our lifestyle choices and behavioral patterns shape our physical reality. Mental stress, physical stress, emotional stress and poor coping mechanisms such as lack of connection, inadequate nutrition and sedentary lifestyles manifest in physical symptoms like headaches, joint pain, muscle tension, anxiety, depression or gastric distress.
These symptoms indicate the body, mind and spirit are out of alignment. I know firsthand that by consciously supporting our gut and working on lifestyle choices that nourish body, mind and sprit, we can come back to ourselves and watch those physical symptoms related to gut dysfunction melt away. This way of healing is what I want to share with you.
I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia. I then went to Linfield University for my BSN degree and worked as an operating room nurse for 7 years prior to receiving my doctorate as a family nurse practitioner at the University of Portland. I have had training with the Institute for Functional Medicine. I am also Level 1 Reiki-certified and have taken classes in the chakra systems. I practice meditation and kundalini yoga. Â
With my educational background and interest in spirituality and energetic work, I am uniquely positioned to help you address your gut issues and get to the root-cause so that you can get back to living the life you love ✨

Let's Do This!Fun facts!
PNW Based
I love living in small town Oregon wine country. The lushness of the valley, the beautiful seasons (even the rain), the strong community.
Even though I'm based in Oregon, as a coach I can help people all over the country!Â
Spiritual
I love doing energetic work and recognize the importance it has in transforming health and wellness. I am a kundalini yoga practitioner and use breathwork throughout my day to get me back to center.Â
Mama
My daughter has been the biggest motivator for my personal growth and healing. I want to be the best version of myself for her. I want to share how important health is and to not take any of it for granted. She always keeps me honest and pushes me to try harder.
Learner
My doctorate of nursing practice degree was one of my biggest accomplishments. I continue to have a love of learning and am committed to a growth mindset. I regularly engage in continuing education so that I can stay up-to-date and bring you the best!
Gardener
I started a garden a year ago for the purpose of connecting to the earth, the seasons, my food. It's been a fun project and I've learned so much. A lot of it through failure. This is what makes us better. We learn so much from our mistakes.
